Migalhas was founded in November 2000 as a daily electronic newsletter, by Miguel Matos, a lawyer in São Paulo. It soon became a success, appealing to readers in legal and business circles who wanted smart and lively coverage of the day's news. Since then, Migalhas has reported on every important issue with a great sense of humor and lyricism.

Today, Migalhas circulates to 285,000 readers daily. The newsletter is available in Portuguese, while Migalhas International, created in August 2003, reaches a worldwide audience of 55,000 in English. The Web sites are a complement to the publications and feature reference articles, important opinions on current issues, personality profiles, book reviews, practical information on continuing education, seminars and events.

In June 2007, we launched Migalhas LatinoAmérica, in Spanish, for the law firms and businesses that face national and international competition and need to adapt to continually changing environment and higher standards of service in Central and Latin America.

Our purpose is to enhance society by creating, collecting and distributing high-quality news, information and entertainment. We are committed to producing the finest possible news report every day. Indeed, Migalhas has commanded a lot of attention in law firms circles.

Clearly, sponsors have noticed. With over 325 firms in the roster, Migalhas, Migalhas International and Migalhas LatinoAmérica are exclusively sponsored by the finest law firms and companies of Brazil and the rest of the world. They are very active with their contributions to the publication and they do not confuse sponsorship with a spectator sport.

In June 2007, Migalhas International celebrated its 500th edition.

Migalhas also publishes the magazine Connexão, a thematic review of the current legal issues and developments, with contributions from lawyers of prominent international law firms and officers of the judicial institutions.

Migalhas International publishes the highly celebrated "Grammatigalhas" column, featuring articles on legal concepts in civil and common law, lawyering skills, economy and finance, ... which bridge the gap between academic and practical law for foreign educated lawyers and business executive working in an international environment. It also publishes "Law Firm Marketing", a weekly column on marketing, communications and management; those subjects are prevalent for law firms facing national and international competition.

Migalhas has partnered with LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell to provide exclusive editorial and educational content to the legal industry, with a view to reinforce their presence in Latin America and enhance their brand awareness in the market place.

Michael Ghilissen is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) - Business Law section. The Mission of the American Bar Association is to be the representative of the legal profession, serving the public and the profession by promoting justice, professional excellence and respect for the law.

Michael Ghilissen is a member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), a professional association of corporate officers and investor relations consultants responsible for communication among corporate management, the investing public and the financial community.
